Dental Veneers

What are Veneers?

Dental veneers are tooth-colored, custom-made, thin shells of porcelain or composite resins that are attached to the outer surfaces of the teeth. Veneers are primarily used for restoring esthetics of damaged teeth, but they can also be used for fixing structural tooth defects.

How long does it take the dentist to apply white filling?

The time it takes to place white filling is generally longer compared to applying a metal filling. The reason for this is that composite fillings require the tooth to be kept clean and dry while the cavity is being filled. Today, more and more people are having white dental filling instead of amalgam or gold filing. And the reason could be because of the aesthetics. We live in a society where we have high regard for a white, bright smile and so people tend to want fillings that blends with the natural color of their teeth.

Who Can Benefit from Dental Veneers?

At AZ Specialty Dental, we recommend dental veneers for treating a variety of cosmetic dental problems. You can benefit from dental veneers if you have:

Teeth Stains -

While most teeth stains can be removed through professional bleaching, some stains are permanent. In these cases, we use dental veneers to mask the underlying discoloration and to restore your smile and facial esthetics.

Excessive Teeth Gaps -

If you have an excessive gap between your adjacent teeth and you cannot afford orthodontic treatment, then we recommend veneers. We will design your veneers in such a way that they will cosmetically hide the gap, giving you an attractive and charming smile.

Chipped Teeth -

Dental veneers can also be used for restoring the structure and esthetics of chipped or fractured teeth. In fact, they are more durable and stronger in comparison to the direct tooth fillings.

Misaligned Teeth -

Dental veneers can also be used for cosmetically correcting minor tooth misalignments. More complex problems require orthodontic treatment with braces or Invisalign clear aligners.

Smile Makeover -

if you are not happy with the color, shape, or size of your teeth, then we can give you the smile of your dreams with porcelain or composite veneers.

What are Different Types of Veneers?

At AZ Specialty Dental, we offer two types of veneers:

Composite Veneers -

Are prepared from tooth-colored resins, which are shaped to the teeth and then bonded to restore esthetics and function.

Porcelain Veneers -

Porcelain veneers are prepared in the laboratory and then bonded to the teeth. These are generally more resistant to fracture and staining.

How are Veneers Prepared?

Resin-based veneers are usually prepared and attached during a single appointment. However, you may have to visit 2-3 times to get porcelain veneers. Here's how veneers are prepared:

Initial Consultation -

During your first visit, our doctors will examine your teeth and assess your eligibility for getting veneers. At this point, you may ask any questions that you may have regarding your treatment. Before you decide, we will present various available options for treating your problem and guide you in selecting the option which best suits your oral health needs.

Tooth Preparation -

during your next visit, we will prepare the teeth that will receive the veneers. We will remove a thin layer of the outer enamel of your teeth to create room for the attachment of the veneers. Don't worry; your teeth won't become sensitive after tooth preparation.

Tooth Impressions -

next, we will make impressions of your teeth and send them to the laboratory, along with information regarding the desired shade, for the fabrication of your veneers. The dental technician at the laboratory will use the impressions of your prepared teeth to make custom-made veneers that perfectly fit your teeth.

Attaching your Veneers -

once your veneers are received back from the laboratory, we will first try them on your teeth without bonding to make sure that they have optimal esthetics and proper fit. Once satisfied, we will permanently attach them to the prepared teeth with adhesive cement.

Congratulations! Enjoy your brand-new smile! We will schedule a follow-up visit after two weeks to make sure that the veneers remain functional for a long time.

How to Care for Dental Veneers?

Dental veneers do not require special care. All you need is regular brushing and flossing to retain your beautiful smile. In addition, the American Dental Association recommends the following to take care of your veneers:

Limit Strong Colored Foods - Our doctors recommend that you should limit the intake of foods and beverages that can stain your teeth and veneers, such as tea, coffee, or red wine.

Avoid Hard and Sticky Foods - Eating hard, and sticky foods may result in the fracture or dislodgement of your veneers.

Regular Check-up Visits - We recommend that you visit us regularly for checkups so that, in addition to ensuring your overall dental health, we can also make sure that there are no issues with your veneers and other restorations.

How Long do the Veneers Last?

According to the American College of Prosthodontics, dental veneers generally last between 5-10 years. You can extend the life of your veneers by ensuring optimal oral hygiene and regular dental checkups.

Emergencies Related to Dental Veneers

Although dental veneers, if looked after carefully, tend to last for a long time, they may get dislodged or fractured in some cases.
